About Me

I have always been encouraged and inspired to be creative by my parents, so always wanted to follow in their creative footsteps. As a little girl I cherished my pencils, colouring book, my little sewing machine, a pile of fabric remnants, a few balls of wool and a pair of knitting needles. I would jump from one creative passion to another. During my time at senior school, where I struggled with dyslexia, I realised achieving five ‘O’ levels to follow my dream of going to Art college was not going to happen.

Along with that dream another wish was to have a family, which I did having four beautiful babies. I couldn’t resist getting my knitting machine and wool out to make clothes for, not only my own children but also friends children. After the knitting machine I was introduced to the art of salt dough, which was great as I could use my sculpting and painting skills. This lead me to the world of craft fairs, where I really enjoyed meeting people that loved my creations.

A few years later I found myself following a new direction selling furniture at Beverley Pine. This lead to my enrollment onto an interior design course at Bishop Burton College and to my amazement painting was part of the course.  Whilst studying I met a brilliant teacher/artist called Robin, who made me realise again that Art was my passion. Robin ran weekly classes at Vista Arts where I studied for another 2 years, giving me the chance to experiment with different mediums and perfect my skills.

In 2006 whilst shopping in York, I visited a gallery called Artfulness and after chatting to the owner Amy she agreed to exhibit my work and to my surprise my work started to sell. I felt very lucky to have achieved my ambition of selling my work, way before I thought this would happen. Since then I have continued to exhibit and sell my work in various galleries.

I paint images that inspire me and my inspiration has developed from a love of the countryside I grew up in. Other inspirations include my love of animals, especially cats that I have always owned throughout my life. Another inspiration of mine is flowers, which comes from my father as he was a keen gardener. It is great to be able to just buy a few flowers and create a beautiful painting from them.

I love seeing artwork produced in many different ways and have always made cards from my work. Then in 2013, I decided to venture into producing printed canvases, cushions and mounted prints from my original artwork. I also rekindled my love for the world of craft fairs during this time and it’s a nice place to interact with people who enjoy my work and it’s great to get first hand feedback.

I am currently exhibiting my work at Lairgate Gallery in Beverley and Art and Rose Gallery in Pocklington. My work has also appeared in open exhibitions, at the Wolds Gallery in Bainton and also at Ferens Gallery in Hull where my work was accepted on two separate occasions, something I am very proud of. My work has also sold to people from various countries including United States of America, Holland and Australia.

My prices range from £200-£1000 depending on the size and intensity of the painting. I work with a wide range of mediums but I tend to work mostly in acrylics on box canvases, as it seems to save all the worry of choosing what colour and type of mount for framing.

My work is available in limited edition mounted prints, deep edge printed canvases and everything is available in a range of different sizes. I make handmade cards and cushions that can have any of my images displayed on them. I am also hoping to have my artwork printed onto fabric bags, as most of us ladies now enjoy having a nice fabric bag to put our shopping in. All of the above can be produced on request. I hope you enjoy browsing my artwork and feel free to leave any comments.
